The Association of Mine Safety Professionals of South Africa

Since its establishment in 2017 the main objectives of the Association are to promote and uphold the general advancement of Health and Safety Professionals in the South African mining industry. AMSPSA aims to educate its members on safety matters by considering and discussing everything affecting the professional interests of its members. By arranging meetings, seminars, symposiums and other networking opportunities for its members and other parties interested in mine safety, AMSPSA aims to create at least an enabling platform for promoting and discussing important matters relating to mine safety in South Africa, which is beneficial to all who are employed in the mining sector.

Our Vision

To become the ultimate information and knowledge HUB for Safety Professionals across the mining industry, where experience can be shared, lessons learned and competence improved via an aligned and standardized qualification framework.

Our Mission

To identifying, prioritize and action concerns, barriers and opportunities for improvement in our domain in terms of competency of Safety Personnel and to be the single recognized association for Mine Safety Professionals in South Africa

 

We will engage with leaders in our industry in all operational functions such as mining, engineering, logistics as well as OEMs and the DMR for best practices on all fronts from soft skills such as leadership right down to nuts and bolts for technical practices.

 

Scheduling contact sessions for Safety Professionals to facilitate discussions, establish project teams to facilitate projects and campaigns on behalf of the Safety professionals, who will in turn implement these at their operations and engage with government authorities, educational bodies etc. on relevant matters.

 

Conduct seminars, workshops and conferences to communicate concepts, introduce new thinking and obtain further input and comment from industry.

THE ASSOCIATION

The name of the association shall be the “Association of Mine Safety Professionals of South Africa” (AMSPSA) and shall have districts covering the mining industry in South Africa:

​

  • Central district (Rustenburg/ Brits/ Thabazimbi/ Zeerust region)

  • Eastern district (Mpumalanga/ Limpopo region)

  • Western district  (Klerksdorp/ Carletonville/ Westonaria region/JHB)

  • Free State district

  • Northern Cape district

THE OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSOCIATION

​

  1. To promote and uphold the general advancement of ZERO HARM in the South African mining industry.

  2. To uphold the status of the South African mining safety profession.

  3. To protect the interests of members.

  4. To give guidance to members on safety matters.

  5. To present generally the views of the mining industry safety profession.

  6. To discourage dishonorable conduct or practices of members.

  7. To consider and deal with all matters affecting the professional interests of members.

  8. To arrange meetings of members and interested persons or bodies for the purpose of promoting and discussing matters relating to mine safety.
